California based actress, Vanessa Baden |
Yush Magazine had an exclusive opportunity to interview two amazing and inspiring Directors from Hometeam Entertainment.
“These two have joined forces by the grace of God,” says Vanessa Baden.
Baden started her acting career at age 4, and by the time she was 7 she was starring in Nickelodeon's sitcom Kenan and Kel.
After her 9-year journey with Kenan and Kel, she felt she was socialized enough outside of the studio, due to her career and its demands.
Baden's parents urged Vanessa to finish her education, and she agreed she did. She Graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Sociology and a new understanding of who she really was and where she was headed.
Baden told Yush " I fell in love with Social Politics and teaching so I did that for three years." Vanessa comes from a strong Christian background and thanks God for his guidance.
James Bland - the other side to this coin - was a young man acting in church plays until his 6’5” height lead him to sports. He always loved the arts and poetry, and he does to this day. Right now he does dub poetry.
Disciplined and determined, Bland ended up with a academic scholarship which steered his focus to social politics and activism.
Bland told Yush that in his senior year he studied Drama Theory, which inspired him to write and direct his first film and affirmed that this was his calling. With nothing but a dream, Bland relocated to California to pursue his passion.
Bland ended up landing an intern position working with Will Packer (Producer of films Obsessed (starring Beyonce), Takers, and Stomp the Yard). This led to an assistant producer position on the film Death At A Funeral.
After that, Bland decided to take some time off and travelled to Africa to shoot his own documentary and started directing his own short films and sitcoms starting with Cocoa Love. (Link)
Coming from two different but similar backgrounds this magnetic duo of Bland and Baden brings an abundance of talent and experience to Hometeam Entertainment.
Their first sitcom titled " FAIL " is based on the life of college students, trying to study for their exams but finding the distractions of college life get in the way. This light-hearted comedy will have you reminiscing your own experiences.
Hometeam have a long list of things they’d like to accomplish in the near future.
1. Bland said, " We want to situate a network."
2. Baden said she’d like to, "finish the screen play they started that was inspired by a shared college experience".
3. Bland said, "I'd like to branch into the music scene and continue with our dub poetry."
4. Baden said she wants to “cross all borders with their story telling.”
5. Bland said, " We want to provide opportunity for up and coming actors, actresses and make films that we control without Hollywood's monopolized discretion".
I had the opportunity to experience the passion, drive and faith these two share for Hometeam Entertainment, and look forward to what we will see from them in the future. To see Baden talk about Cocoalove, click here.
